Do you ever come across a brand that really makes you feel something? Whether it’s their mission, motto, packaging, advertisements, or all of the above? For me, RealHer was one of those brands that made me feel special from the moment I opened the box. Each item’s packaging was luxurious, beautiful, and had an inspiring message inscribed on top like “I AM PERFECT,” “I AM AWESOME,” or “I LOVE MYSELF.”

Each item makes you feel empowered just using it, but of course that’s no coincidence. As their website states, RealHer was built on the idea that the thoughts we imbue to our daily makeup rituals can have a profound impact on our confidence and well-being. It’s like having words of affirmation or a daily mantra printed right on the makeup you use every day.

As I was opening each package and learning more about the brand, I kept thinking to myself…if I have a daughter one day, this is the makeup brand I’d want her to use! There are so many messages that the media sends young girls and women these days telling us how we need to act, who we need to be and what we need to look like. So it’s incredibly refreshing to come across a beauty brand that encourages us to embrace our individuality and to know our worth. We all have moments of doubt, and sometimes all it takes is something small to turn things around.

While I was first using the products I really didn’t know much about the brand’s history and roots, so I thought it was pretty special to read that the RealHer Makeup founder, Bill Xiang, actually created the brand for his own daughter to inspire her to become independent, successful and fulfilled, without telling her she isn’t enough.

RealHer also takes its message of empowerment to the next level by donating 20 percent of all gross profits to the American Association of University Women (AAUW), a non-profit organization that advances empowerment, self-fulfillment and actualization for women and girls through leadership programs, advocacy, education, and research. A company that doesn’t make me feel bad for spending my paycheck on lipstick and eye shadow is a company that I can get behind!

Oh, and a little more real talk for a second: RealHer makeup is certified cruelty-free, paraben-free, sulfate-free, made with natural ingredients and does not test on animals in any way. AMAZING. I’m not one of those people who eats all-organic and uses all natural products (if I did, that half a pint of Ben & Jerry’s last night would’ve been a big mistake) but I always go for the more natural product if I’m choosing between two products. So the next time I’m reaching for a lipstick, you can be sure I’ll be more inclined to choose this one.

Okay, so let’s get into the product. The first thing I tried out were two of the brand’s eye shadow palettes – “Do Your Squats” perfect basics palette and the “Be Your Own Kind of Beauty” nude collections palette. First off, I loved that there were a mix of both mattes and shimmer shadows, and light and dark shadows so you can create a complete look. If a palette has a nice brow bone highlight, transition shade, dark shade and a shimmery lid color, I’m good to go. And this one had all that and more. All of the colors were super pigmented and easy to blend so I give both a thumbs up.

Next up I tried the blush kit called “Be Fearless, Be Limitless.” As soon as I opened the kit I loved that the blushes were nearly full-size and that they reminded me of these baked blushes I used to use when I first started getting really into makeup. My favorite is the middle shade called “Limitless” because it’s a beautiful peach tone that went perfectly with my skin color. Also, they have just the right hint of shimmer – I don’t love when blushes have any chunky glitter – that gives you all the glow you need.

Next up was the brand’s Lip Kit in “I AM AWESOME.” On the website the color is described as deep nude, but on me it looked slightly mauve-y pink. It’s the color I’m wearing in the photos, and I didn’t add a filter so you could see the true color. The liner was a super creamy formula that was easy to go on and I was able to line my entire lips with it for maximum staying power. I haven’t tried the liquid lipstick on its own yet, but I will say that pairing it with the lip plumping lip gloss on top made it really comfy and even moisturizing to wear. Though the gloss made my lips look nice and plump, I wanted to be sure to note that it doesn’t have that tingling sensation that some lip plumping glosses do since I know that’s kind of a love it or hate it situation.

And last but not least, I tried out the brand’s moisturizing lipsticks in the shades “GirlPower,” “No Filter,” and “I am Powerful.” These are the lip products I see myself using on a daily basis — whether going to work, meetings or just days on the go, I could definitely see myself wearing the nude and mauve pink on the regular. I’ll probably save the lip kit for things like date nights, brunch with the girls, and other special occasions. The last lipstick shade, I am Powerful, is the most gorgeous deep red oxblood color and I will most definitely be making use out of this shade in the Fall.

I can’t wait to try out the rest of the line and keep creating looks with these fun products. If there are any particular products or colors you want to see me incorporate into a look or even just swatch, let me know in the comments and I’ll make it happen.
